The Transgender Pride Flag was created by Monica Helms, a transgender woman and activist, in 1999. It was first flown at a pride parade in Phoenix, Arizona, in 2000. Helms designed the flag to represent the transgender community and provide a symbol of pride and visibility.
The flag consists of five horizontal stripes: two light blue, two pink, and one white in the center. The light blue stripes represent traditional colors associated with baby boys, while the pink stripes represent traditional colors associated with baby girls. The white stripe represents individuals who identify as neither male nor female, transitioning, or have a gender identity that falls outside the binary.
The Transgender Pride Flag quickly gained recognition and acceptance within the transgender community and beyond as a symbol of transgender rights, visibility, and inclusion. It has become a widely recognized emblem of the transgender community, flying at pride events, rallies, and protests around the world, serving as a reminder of the ongoing struggle for transgender rights and acceptance.
